Hanna LeeViola
Violist Hanna Lee is one of the most spotlighted violists of the generation. She has been invited to perform at many of the world's leading festivals and venues including Ravinia, Verbier, Marlborough, Chamber Music Northwest, Kronberg Chamber Music Connects the World, Hong Kong HKGNA Music Festival, Beijing NCPA
where she has collaborated with renowned artists such as violinist Christian Tetzlaff, violist Kim Kashkashian, cellists Steven Isserlis and Colin Carr, and clarinetist Charles Naidich. She has performed with the Frankfurt am Main Youth Philharmonic, the NEC Philharmonic, and the Alaska Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, and is regularly invited to perform as guest principal of the Australian Chamber Orchestra.
Highlights of her Korean stage appearances include performances at the Seoul Arts Center Orchestra Festival, Music in Pyeongchang, Seoul International Music Festival, Seoul Spring Festival, Autumn Chamber Music Festival, and Pohang Music Festival. She has performed with leading Korean orchestras such as Korean National Symphony Orchestra, KBS Symphony Orchestra, and Seongnam Symphony Orchestra to name a few. Her strong passion and commitment towards chamber music have led her to perform the complete Shostakovich string quartets and the complete Beethoven string quartets as a member of Kallaci String Quartet. She was featured several times at Kumho Art Hall where she presented recitals of Schubert’s Winterreise and complete viola recital cycle of Brahms, and has organized the “All about viola I and II” series where she has impressed many audiences with her brilliant technique that surpasses that of the violin and her full and rich viola sound.
A laureate of the New England Conservatory Concerto Competition, International Young Artists’ Competition, Hellam Young Artists’ Competition among many others, she gained attention as a rising violist and was named “Young Artists to Lead the Next Generation” by Korea’s leading classic music magazine Monthly
Auditorium.
Hanna Lee studied with Sun Hwa Oh and Sangjin Kim at Korea National University of Arts, with Roberto Diaz at Curtis Institute of Music, with Kim Kashkashian at New England Conservatory of Music, and with Nobuko Imai at Kronberg Academy, took Konzertexam course at Detmold University of Music and was inherited the musical legacy from these great violists. She was also inspired and influenced by great musicians of our time such as Gidon Kremer, Yuri Bashmet, Franz Helmerson, and Garth Knox.
Hanna Lee is a member of Korea's leading chamber music ensembles, Kallaci String Quartet, Kumho Soloists, and Ensemble Opus. She has taught at the Korea National University of Arts, Yonsei University, and Chamber Music Northwest, and is currently a professor of viola at The Tianjin Juilliard School.
